Spetses

A few words about Spetses

Spetses, is an island that definitely wins over all visitors at first sight! It combines harmonically its traditional character with modern elements; the cosmopolitan environment of unparallel, natural beauty meets the Greek history, which is underlined by Bouboulinas? courage during the Greek revolt in 1821.

The island?s alleys, the gorgeous beaches, the vast pine-forests, the magnificent Mansions, the beautiful churches, and of course the traditional carriage-men holding their whip, form a scenery of simplicity but also one of luxury, which enchants the visitor.

It is no accident that the island attracts wealthy tourists, who buy or build their own cottages in Spetses.  There is also a great number of yachts and cruisers which anchor in the island?s port in all seasons.

Beaches

Agia Marina
This is a well-organized and busy beach on the town?s south-east outskirts, in a green cove with a great view of ?Spetsopoula?, the ?daughter? islet of Spetses.  You will love the crystal-blue waters and the sandy beach.  It is ideal for the lovers of sea-sports, but also for those who wish to combine their swimming with a great meal, since there is also a restaurant-bar on the beach.

Agia Paraskevi
A magnificent pebbled beach, surrounded by pine-trees and clear waters.  At some point the pine trees almost touch the water and they create a lovely shadow ideal for safety and relaxation.  It is not an organized beach but it has a restaurant.  There is also a picturesque chapel by the sea.

Ag. Anargyri
One of the island?s largest and busiest beaches. This is a pebbled, well-organized beach in the pine-covered cove of a small settlement, in Western Spetses.  It is suitable for the sea-sports lovers, it offers restaurants, taverns as well as hotels, and many more comforts. The impressive Bekiris? cave is nearby, this was used as a hideaway shelter by the women and children during the Revolution.  The inside of the cave is a small sandy beach.

Agios Mamas
This is a relatively small but quite beautiful pebbled beach near the town center, ideal for a nearby swim.  There are a lot of taverns and bars for food and entertainment in the area.

Kouzounos
This is one of the island?s most beautiful but also hard to locate beaches, so visitors usually pass it by in a hurry and miss it.  It is in the northern part of the island.
