Kea (Tzia)

A few words about Kea

Tzia offers many pleasant surprises to each new visitor. Although it is so close to Attica, the island has remained intact from the wave of modern development. The myths, the rich history, the superb lacelike beaches with their green and blue waters, the cobbled alleys, the stone settlements, the picturesque watermills and windmills draw the attention of every traveler.

Beaches

Gialiskari
This is a sandy beach with plenty of tamarisks suitable for small children, but also for ?big? ones, since a stone beach bar can offer you coffee, and a large variety off snacks accompanied by music. There are also rented rooms in the area.

Kambi
This is a bay from which acorns used to be loaded on ships. Tamarisks and oak trees come down to the beach providing ample shade. The old acorn warehouses have been converted into beautiful traditional summer houses. You can enjoy good food at the restaurant built on the beach, while gazing over the sea.

Kastri
It is a beautiful but deserted pebble beach with many sea caves in the rock of the Panagia. Access is only by sea.

Koundouros
The sandy beach of Koundouros is one of the best known on Kea. It is the famous village more than the beach itself that has made it different from others. The wonderful stone houses with the colourful gardens, excellent old windmills which have been restored and made into enviable summer houses, and a quiet bay which holds the boats of anybody, famous or not, all together make a magical scene.

Xyla
This is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It is large, with fine sand, fantastic turquoise water and beach umbrellas that offer shade to bathers. A settlement of traditional-style houses is being built amphitheatrically around it.

Otzias
This is a quiet bay embraced by a green shoreline with a beach of fine sand. The clear shallow waters are ideal for children. The summer settlement is composed of country houses built according to traditional architectural style, but also of original old houses with colourful gardens and vines. There are cafés and taverns slightly inland.

Spathi
This is a beach with a very long shoreline and superb turquoise waters with sole company a few houses and a tavern-cum-ouzo shop which is always ready to welcome visitors.

Sykamia
This is one of the most beautiful and famous beaches on Kea. Its exotic colour, green tamarisks offering their shade, pretty straw umbrellas and a small shop offering food and refreshments all compose an image of this beautiful beach.
